Greetings! My name is Mike Tamas and I am thoroughly excited to be a part of North Middle School's Project Lead the Way initiative. This will be my third year in the Menomonee Falls School District after spending nearly nine years as a broadcast meteorologist in Albany, NY and Milwaukee, WI.
I believe three things about my students: they are inherently good, they want to learn, and they want to be loved. Every student has a background story worth knowing, and it is my job to build relationships with my students that unveil their stories and allow me to differentiate my instruction to help them be successful learners. It is with that in mind that I look forward to opening my students' minds to the possibility of a career in science, math, technology, or engineering. It is unanimously agreed upon by experts that these are the four areas of most need when it comes to preparing our students for the workforce of the future.
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) aims to increase the number of American students entering the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce by increasing student achievement and motivation in these areas. To accomplish this objective, PLTW programs give students hands-on project-based experiences and expose them to areas of science and technology not traditionally encountered in the secondary curriculum. A focus on offering career-based opportunities to students has been encouraged by research indicating that the majority of professional scientists became interested in science before high school and that positive experiences with science during their school years were particularly important in influencing their career directions.
I received my B.S. degree in atmospheric science from the State University of New York in Albany and my Master of Arts of Teaching degree from Cardinal Stritch University. I am certified to teach grades 1-8 with a focused certification on middle school Broadfield Science (601).
I will be teaching 6th grade Design and Modeling, Medical Detectives, 7th Grade Science, and Exploration of Social Media and Media Creations this year.
The fastest way to reach me is via email (firstname.lastname@example.org). I will make every attempt to respond within 24 hours. Additionally you can also call my voicemail (262-946-2255); however, I am notoriously bad at checking this so e-mail is best. If you choose to call please leave a message with your name, number, and best time to reach you.
